iPhoneAtom: Google News Feed Reader

 blog_designedforiphone.jpg

iPhoneAtom Google News Feed Reader, though it’s designed specifically for the iPhone – the interface just doesn’t look it compared to other specially designed services such as IM Chat Application – Trillian Astra. Nonetheless, it’s still a very handy news feeder and most useful when you just want a quick glimpse of whats happening. Images and review after the jump.

Currently, there are 14 categories. Starting off with - Top News followed by iPhone Blogs, Latest iPhone Apps, Latest iPhone News, YouTube Top Favorites, YouTube Top Viewed, Business, Entertainment, Health, Sci/Tech, Sports, UK, US and World.

A click on any category will lead to the latest headlines still in plain text format. Clicking a headline will lead you directly to the website the news was taken from. Because of the nature of feeds, load time is fairly quick since it’s text based. I assume since this is designed specifically for the iPhone – it will only lead users to iPhone compatible sites without the bells and whistles of flash enabled sites.

With the exception of YouTube, as links will utilize the iPhone inbuilt YouTube app instead of linking to it’s website on the net. Bypassing the need for Flash capabilities. To view this on your iPhone, just point your Safari browser to http://www.iphoneatom.com/iphoneatom.aspx . PC users can download the latest Safari browser and have a go at it as well.

Thanks for the nice review. I built the site to play around with Joe Hewitt’s iUI interface (http://www.joehewitt.com/files/iphone/navigation.html) for the iPhone. The google news feeds seemed to be a natural for this sliding interface. iPhoneYelp is coming soon but will have a different type interface.

    Hey Greg,

Nice work there with the iPhoneAtom. With it, I feel as if I have the Nintendo Wii News Channel in my pocket. In case you are interested to know, it’s 2nd after my own blog under MyBookmarks.

If I may, hope to see more categories being added to an already amazing list you’ve got there. Maybe something on Games, Movies and Music? That’d be fantastic. Keep it up.
