Tutorial: Getting A US iTunes Account

Not having a US based credit card or iTunes Gift Card – one usually would sign-up for the localized iTunes store account. Getting these localized accounts would mean having content restrictions. Most often than not, stuff available to download in the US Store will not appear in the localized iTunes store. The objective of this tutorial is to help those in need of a work-around to getting a US account without providing any credit card details or gift card. To begin, ensure you have the iTunes installed. If you have not done so, download via Apple’s website by clicking here. Once that’s completed, follow these steps to create a US iTunes account. Let’s start:

Step 1 – Launch iTunes. If this is the first time you’re running iTunes, you should see a “Sign-in” button on the top right corner as shown. Do not click it.

STEP 2 – Look for App Store located on the top left menu. Click it. You’ll be directed to the App Store page. Look for Top Free Apps listing located at the bottom right corner. Click on any free App listed.

STEP 3 – Notice the GET APP button? Click it. You will see a pop-up with the options to Create New Account or Sign-in with existing account. Click on Create New Account.

STEP 4 – You’ll see a Welcome to the iTunes Store page. Click continue to review the Terms and Conditions. Tick I have read and agree to the iTunes Terms and Conditions. Click on the Continue button at the bottom to proceed.

STEP 5 – Here, you’ll need to enter your email address which will be used as your iTunes Account sign-in. Enter a password of your choice. Key in a Question and Answer which could be anything from your fav food or pet’s name. Complete the rest of the form and click Continue.

STEP 6 – You will see a Provide A Payment Method page. Here, select None as your payment method. Skip the Gift Cards & Certificate code and go straight to entering your Name and Address. You can google any US address with a valid Zip code and phone number. What I did was google San Francisco Postal Office. Once that’s done, click Continue.

STEP 7 – You will be asked to Verify Your Account. Click on Done. An activation email will be sent and you’re required to click on the link on the email to activate your account. Once you’ve done that, launch iTunes and sign-in with your newly created account by entering the Email Address and Password used during registration process.

That’s it. You will now be able to access all contents on the US iTunes store.
