All’s Well End’s Well … Not!

allswellendswell

The original All’s Well End’s Well with Stephen Chow, Leslie Chueng, Maggie Chueng and Sandra Ng was a Chinese New Year classic. I must have watched it at least 50 times. How do you top such a feat? You can’t. Its impossible. Just came back from watching this which I classified as the most worthless piece of CNY crap in recent memories. Its nothing but a ploy to market a worthless piece of CNY crap to the China audience. From the weird Mandarin-Cantonese dialogues to the shameless promo of Qingdao. Sure, there were some funny moments but they were far and wide apart. Stay home instead. Avoid at all cost.

There are indeed very few good Chinese movies that are worth watching. Kung Fu Panda and the other recent movie by Jet li & Jackie Chan are the rare good inspiring ones. Trying to watch Red Cliff 2. Should be nice.

Check your gmail. Hope you enjoy them.

I m trying to cope with my limited HD space on my old iMac 17″ now. Thinking thinking thinking…. maybe I should get a photo-only external HD to store all my photos instead of upgrading my Mac. Can you give any advice on cheaper place(s) in KL to upgrade my 1GB memory to 2GB? If I could upgrade my HD so much the better but this is a Mac!

External HDD are dirt cheap these days. 1Tb is selling for RM380. I am using a Western Digital MyBook and its mainly to store stuff I download from the net.

I’ve checked my gmail. My fav is IMG_0687. I like how you composed the image to include more of the sea than land. Its a very calming photo.

I assume you have 2 memory slots on your iMac and both taken up by a 512 RAM? Or do you just have a 1Gb RAM on one slot while the other is vacant? Give me details and I will make a call to my regular shop and see how much it cost.

Hope you had a great trip with your family. 🙂

I’ve watched the worthless piece of crap too, with the “I think this is gonna be crap” idea at the back of my mind when I entered the darkened theater. But thought maybe I should give it a chance… man, the stupid movie angers me at many point. One of them is the Louise Koo reenacting Stephen Chow’s post head damaged “symptoms” to show that’s his in love symptoms. Such a load of shite!!!! And the twirling as a sign of falling in love bit… WHOAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! I want to burn down the cinema!!!!!!!! I’m gonna detox by watching whole season of 30 Rock.

The twirling was so “Kak Ngang Lei” and it made me wanna puke on the guy sitting in front of me. From the “Devil Wears Prada” copycat opening – I knew it will be a tough 80 mins. Heard on radio, this is the first time an “All’s Well End’s Well” movie will be shown in cinemas across China. That explains why they filmed it at Qingdao and have these Cantonese-Mandarin dialogues. The Raymond Wong half-naked swimming pool scene was so un-necessary and my scared-shitless-meter was equivalent to the last scene of “The Ring” (Japanese version). I need to re-watch the original again. Badly.

  5. 5 Justy February 1, 2009 at 9:30 pm

Well, any close up on Raymond Wong was unnecessary. In fact it gives me a very “chai leong” feeling, so old still needs to bare. Well, this china and HK collaboration makes it very “Ng Tong Ng Sui” (Not soup not water). Sandra Ng managed to squeeze some laughs but half the time she is also very “kak ngang lei”. Louise Koo and Ronald Cheng cutesy acting really makes me want “Dai ba dai ba sing” them!

Hahahahaha. “Dai ba dai ba sing” …. feeling is mutual.

    Hi!

This Mac has 2 slots – Bank 0 & Bank 1, each filled up with 512MB DDR2SDRAM 667MHz. Thus, I think I need to replaced both with 1GB.

Thanks for the kind comment on that photo, it is not a very good shot. We were at the Westin (my sis got a very good rates for us, she was from the hotel line) and there were a couple of shots on the environment (building) that I am very pleased with. I personally prefer the brighter version of the photo (same composition but different exposure). I am crazy now, thinking of investing in the wide angle lens 17-40mm and explore more. How greedy….hahahah!

    Here is my gadgetary priority:

1)Get my machine up to speed – increase memory to 2GB, and also
2)Increase the HD real estate – get an external HD and increase the internal HD space

    Some questions:

    1) Will time machine works to back up external HD as if it is the internal HD? Was told it will work, should work I hope. If not, no point getting an external HD for storage. I am dumb here, it should work, but still want to ask to confirm from a guru like you
    2) Your choice of Flickr – any particular reason? I am using Picasa
    3) U think iPod Touch will be a great companion to self-entertain ourselves with all our photos? Very tempted!
    4) Will my plan works to speed up my Mac?

Ok, will give the MacShop a call so that u can have a rough idea how much it will cost for the 2Gb RAM. Actually, you should just upgrade to 4Gb. Thats what I am having on my iMac now. Its not that expensive but the performance will be night and day compared to your 1Gb.

Time Machine will work as what you mentioned. But I don’t use it as I don’t want to have a replica of whats on my iMac. As I do not store my photos and downloads in my iMac but straight to my external HDD instead.

Why Flickr? Well, its more popular with photographers compared to Picasa. Other than that, no other special reason.

I am not a believer of iPod Touch. For me, I’ll just get an iPhone instead. The only downside is iPod Touch has a 32Gb unit while iPhone only has 16Gb. But not having to carry 2 gadgets with me is a good enough reason to opt for the iPhone.

Wide angle 17-40mm lens. Nice. You sure got a lot of wants after this trip of yours. Lens, iPod Touch, External HDD, more RAM. Hmmmmmmmm, time to meditate?

ya time 2 meditate! U interested 2 learn 1 day let me know! I m not sure if i can upgrade to 4 gb if can yes i will do so instead of 2gb. Pl pl advice….

Over the weekend, I’ve watched 3 movies in the cinema. First, was the crappy All’s Well End’s Well 2009. Followed by similarly crappy Bedtime Stories. Lastly, a so-so slightly bearable InkHeart. Stay home. Its not safe going to the cinemas with all these craps out there.

try red cliff 2 its great. My mac max out at 2g only.:-(

Me? Meditate? Hahaha. Believe me. I am incurable. Beyond help. Gone case. Run! Save yourself while you still can! Red Cliff 2 eh? Well, I am not a fan of such movies. I find that they are all the same. Just one outdoing another with a bigger budget and casts. I never understood the Crouching Tiger craze. That explains why I end up watching so much crap. Last nite, I was watching “Zack And Miri Make A Porno” written and directed by Kevin Smith. Go figure.

About your Mac. Time to get a new iMac. Apple will be releasing an updated iMac very very very soon. 🙂

  14. 14 virtualess February 2, 2009 at 1:30 pm

so i should wait n trade in my old mac i think!

Just came back from LowYat’s MacStudio. They’ve quoted me RM79 for 1Gb KTA (Apple Certified RAM) and RM50 for regular RAM. But they don’t have existing stocks and ordering will take less than a week. The new iMac, if you can wait a month or two – why not?

  16. 16 virtualess February 2, 2009 at 4:48 pm

hi thats great i will call or go there to buy next week! Do i have to mention ur name? Yes its tempting to get a new mac but that will be my last resort if all things fail to speed up my mac. Tks so much!

You can call Steven Yap of MacStudio at 03-2145799. Just tell him you are my friend and you’ve been quoted RM79 for 1Gb KTA RAM. He will make the order for you and it should arrive within a week.

Hahahaha. Well known! No la. Just that we bought 2 iMacs from him and made his life pretty miserable during the after sales service period. 🙂
