Bali, I Likey

First of all, credit goes to Zirconic a.k.a Eric for this beautiful photo of Tanah Lot. As I had to stay behind to accompany my dad – I didn’t get the chance to shoot the sunset from this angle. It was indeed, a surreal experience. Catching the sunset with a group of people – everyone waiting patiently with their tripods and cameras whilst the sun goes down. I never thought I’d enjoy Bali as much as I did. Again, I think it must be age catching up on me. Sitting there, watching the sun goes down, made me feel calm. It soothes and erases everything – albeit momentarily. I learned quite a bit about Bali after this trip – if you’re interested to know more, click continue:

I was told that the eldest son in the family is not allowed to marry the only daughter in the other family. Because all men are married into the bride’s family. The only exception is if you’re the eldest son in the family – you’re supposed to stay behind to care for your parents and inherit the family property.

On their New Year’s day, usually takes place between March or April – everyone is to treat it as a day of death and reborn the next day to symbolize a new beginning. On this day, everyone is not allowed to eat, drink, speak or leave the house. Even the International Airport will be closed for a day. Previously – those who arrived on this day will be stuck at the airport until the following day. So the Government decided to block all flights and closed the airport instead.

Bali island is 9 times bigger than Singapore but only has a 4-lane wide express way connecting the airport with nearby popular locations. There are no tall buildings here in Bali as the government has imposed a stringent construction guideline – no buildings should be taller than a coconut tree.

I think I will be going back to Bali again in January 2010. I like the place. But this time, we will not be covering any tourist spots such as Volcano, Lakes, Caves, Cliffs or Temples. Just shopping, food, shopping, food and more shopping. Instead of Nusa Dua, will most probably be staying at Kuta – the shopper’s paradise. Time to look out for free tickets from our trusty ol’ Air Asia.

Well …. maybe u should “force” your hubby out of the house and jet set to Bali for a romantic getaway. Tell him that there’s a whole new world outside of Ipoh …. he should give that a try sometimes. Else, you can always follow us “again” in January …. if we go. πŸ™‚
