Movie: District 9

district9-1

This is such a low profile movie. I didn’t know it was showing in the cinema until just a couple of days ago. When I saw those words ‘Peter Jackson presents” – I was like, for real? Driving by federal highway and saw the billboard with a giant UFO hovering a city. This looks promising. Checked out the trailer and find myself intrigued. I dig movies with Aliens on earth. Went to see it at the cinema today, and ….

It’s one of the better sci-fi movie I’ve seen since Independence Day. OK, the recent Star Trek was good but it didn’t made me leave the cinema still in awe of what I’ve just witnessed. Sure, there are many questions I have and loose ends I need re-attaching – but as a movie experience, District 9 was what movie magic is all about – augmented reality.

In documentary form – the characters, stories and interviews linking to the incident that took place unfolds providing a first person experience as it happens. I’m not sure if you would enjoy this movie as much outside the cinema. With distraction and lesser concentration – the intended movie experience might be lost.

It’s not the best Sci-fi flick but if u enjoyed Cloverfiel, then chances are you will like District 9 as well. After watching a couple of interviews on YouTube, it seems this movie was created from scratch after the Halo movie got killed off. Peter Jackson has major gripe against movie studios after the Halo movie deal fell through. Anyway, good movie. Not great. Refreshing – yes. Classic? Doubtful.
