Nintendo Profits Down, End Is Nigh

wii-3010

Okay, maybe the end is nigh part is a little off – but you get the picture. The Japanese gaming giant has announced a drop in interim net profits from ¥144.83 billion yen this time last year to just ¥69.49 billion yen this past six months, with a 43-percent drop in Wii sales. I hope Nintendo has learn a valuable lesson here. People don’t have parties all the time. Ignoring your Core gamers and focusing on Casual gamers is a death wish. It took longer than it should for people to realize it’s just a fad and now your figures is reflective of this realization.

Hm. I was just thinking about getting a Wii. Do you think it’s worth it? Not too many titles available?

If you’re a casual gamer and don’t have time to play online multi-player. Get a Nintendo Wii. If you want re-play value from your game purchases – and like games such as Call Of Duty, Uncharted 2, Killzone, Racing games where you can go online and battle out with other gamers, get a PlayStation 3. It really depends on the type of games you like and your gaming lifestyle.

I have all 3 machines. Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Ermmm, 2 sets each. One set in my room and another set in the living hall. So, trust me when I say the Nintendo Wii is a fad. You’ll be playing it only once or twice a year when Nintendo releases a game like Mario, Wii Sports Resorts, Zelda, Metroid Prime and so on. Hardly any non Nintendo games will make a splash on the Wii.

Besides, the RM999 price point is just RM180 away from getting the latest PlayStation 3 which has FullHD visuals, a built-in Blu-ray Player, Free online gaming. (Xbox360 is subscription base, Wii is free as well but “virtually” you can’t find anyone to connect to)

I can give you hundred and one reason against getting a Nintendo Wii. But in the end, it really depends on the type of gamer you are. Casual or Core.:)

    BigMacky,

Sounds like PS3 is the clear choice… in my mind, if I were to pick the first to buy.
